WOOD DUCKS LOST NEST

A pair of very colorful residential egg layers nesting off the coast of the Adolphus Reach,Lake Ontario,Canada.

They generally nest in an old hollow Beech tree with a few viewing ports to enter.

Now sometime in May,2021 the wind took this dead old tree down but left 10 feet standing.

Althou it’s hollow all the way to the ground,I’m trying to figure a way to maintain the nest for them.

If I can creep up to the top with my chainsaw and trim the top square, i could apply a flat roof and a floor somehow.The roof is the easy part,but the floor is a problem.

If you may have a solution to a false floor please post or comment.

🌴Tips for Taking Plant Cuttings

Cover the Pot With Plastic

Place the container with the cutting into a plastic bag. The bag will keep the humidity high and hold in heat. But don’t seal the bag completely because some airflow is necessary to prevent fungal rot. Keep the container in a warm spot in the house, ideally in an area that experiences filtered light. Don’t put the cutting in full sunlight until new leaves begin appearing along the stem.

Chipmunk Science

It’s been a great year for chipmunks.
They are fully grown at about two months and are sexually mature at one year.

In March or April and maybe again in July or August, a female gives birth to one or two litters of two to nine young after a gestation period of 31 days. The males are not involved in rearing their young. Newborn chipmunks are 2 1/2 inches long, weigh about 0.1 ounce and are toothless, blind and naked. They open their eyes at about 30 days and emerge from the burrow about 10 days later. Shortly after, they are weaned when their mother either moves them to another burrow or moves out herself. They go off on their own about two weeks later.

The typical chipmunk lifespan is roughly two to three years, though some may live to be eight. They are preyed upon by owls, raccoons, wild canine and feline species, and even red squirrels.
